I have a somewhat complicated home network and prefer to use my own managed router, switch and WAPs. The Exede reps and the website all say its no problem to use your own router on the new "unlimited*" plans.
Except you can't. The wireless modem/router surfbeam 2 you get apparently can't be put into bridge mode, unlike pretty much any other ISP's modem/router's. Customer service thinks using your own router just means you want to shut off the wireless on the modem and no amount of explanation will get them to understand that is not the problem.
I did get out of their tier2 though that there will be another new modem once new plans that use the VS-2 sat come online and those might be able to bridge but they couldn't guarantee that of course.
So if you use your own router, fair warning, you will have to do some extensive workarounds to get it to work. It will definitely not work properly.
