Review and test Drive of Exede

I've been looking at EXEDE as an alternative to my pricey, unreliable T1 for some time , I did a test drive yesterday along with one of my co workers who finds himself in a similar situation of being broad band challenged , we met at the local installers house who agreed to let us test drive the system , Our goal was 2 fold , to test how the system performed and more specifically because we are both in IT and can work from home 4 days a week test the VPN performance while connected with Exede , We have a pulse secure client to connect to our corporate network Prior to doing this tests I've been monitoring my home network with Networx and my home router with DD-WRT installed , with a T1 I consistently use 100- 125 gb per month total for the last year , just recently started streaming Netflix and Amazon prime last 2-3 months I connect to my corporate network 4 days a week and stay connected all day long , looking back over the History in Network I use about 10 -12 gb a month just for work from home from that one machine , I tested the speed tests before connected to the network and after connecting to the network , latency was less than 20 ms and speed was 1.4.to 1.5 Mbps before and after connected to the VPN 40-50 ms ,and 1.3 to 1.4 Mbps while connected My buddy has only a ATT 4gLTE phone and could get 2.3 mbps avg 200 ms latency before connecting and .75 to 1 Mbps 350 latency when connected to VPN Performance of Exede , all around browsing was good , speed test showed a 16-17 Mbps download consistently. when 2 of us were using the system at the same time speeds dropped to about 5-6 Mbps which is to be expected, only plans available for our area are the liberty plans with the liberty pass at this time or the business plans Performance of Exede while connected to the VPN , this was the shocker , speed test showed higher latency and connected at 1 Mbps constantly , no higher , it was rock solid and could do anything we wanted it to do while connected , We used VOIP with skype for business , outlook , webex but when sharing screens we did see some painted and the people on the other end saw screen painting , we tried speed tests while one was connected to the VPN and the other not , VPN stayed at 1 Mbps and the other user got 3-5 Mbps, Exede does a lot of caching and prefetching , web accelerating ( smoke and mirrors) on the front end to give the end user a better web experience , when connecting to the VPN all this is turned off while using an encrypted tunnel, to an extent your going to see the same on a cell phone connection which we saw At the end of the day not a bad test drive. there was no way for us to test the performance while under the liberty pass and what research I have done there is no clear answer as to what the formula is or the thresholds are as far as how they throttle the speeds back and how much , from what I have read it is dependent on the beam you are in and users have different experiences while on the liberty pass This is where my concern is around the liberty pass , after 30 gb is consumed what is the performance around VPN going to be and what will be the experience be for someone else in the house while I'm past my 30 gb data and on a VPN connection , that's the big unknown and the hesitation in pulling the trigger at this point
