finally I reached the point where the early termination fee was down to a reasonable level: 5 more month = $65.
Why my disconnect: while the Excede speed is marvelous (up to 20mbs) it is made useless by the monthly usage cap. My family of several active Internet users gobble up the cap on the first day of each month ! Netflix, Amazon Prime, YouTube ...
When I called to disconnect I was offered to upgrade to a cap of 25GB at $104/month ($25 off the normal rate). But that would give me the first 2 days
of actual service each month...
Our area is now served by several wireless ISPs. With cell towers all around (even in areas one would consider "middle of nowhere") I can get fast speeds: e.g. 12mbs for $54.95 (no cap). And higher speeds are available: I was offered up to 100mbs. And the latency is unbelievable (in the teens). And that is not even LTE: there are at least 2 providers in our area (northern Illinois) that offer it.
Excede use while in "slow" mode is unusable: what we did on those days is to tether on to my sons Virgin Mobile cell phone: surprisingly worthwhile at $35/month.
Bottom line: Excede is only worthwhile in truly un-served areas. Before signing up with Excede anybody should truly search for alternatives.
